"Ship me somewhere East of Suez, where the best is like the worst
Where there aren't no Ten Commandments an' a man can raise a
thirst..."
and Diana has again taken us there...another great adventure for these
beautiful English heroines who now suddenly find themselves as abject
slaves to ruthless Eastern masters...great use of historical
narrative...where do we go from here...don't keep us waiting 5 out
of 5 (Elliott) Well written and with plenty of story and world building and a great
range of characters - especially with the ladies in peril. If anything
this is the only weakness as it means that a girl you want to see/read
more about (Sarah for instance) is often not shown for large blocks.
Reminds me of Alan Aldiss - which is a good thing. Hoping that some
suitable piercings and other simialr modifications will also emerge as
part of the transformation of the young ladies and other hapless
captives. Looking forward to book 2! 5 out of 5 (Chtulhu) Another excellent universe that Diana is creating. Wonderful writing,
great Characters, very believable story. A must read! Cannot wait
for book 2 and beyond! 5 out of 5 (Bigrdr)

Get the full book details here In 1845, the American merchant ship "Friendship" was attacked and sunk by Malayan pirates. Aboard were five British subjects--young girls sailing to the new Hong Kong colony to marry men to whom they had been betrothed. The Malayan's plan for the Calcutta Five, as they were dubbed by the media, was to ransom two, auction two as harem slaves, and keep one in bondage for their rajah. This was foiled by the East India Company who, appalled by the piracy and the abductions, would stop at nothing to retaliate. |
