It all started several years ago when Brian found a unique chest in his grandfather's basement. The treasure caught his eyes rather quickly, and Brian wanted to explore the chest. Suddenly, his grandfather ordered him to never touch the chest again and to never open it.
Six years later, Brian stumbles upon this chest again. Deciding to open it, and feeling no need to adhere to the grave warnings of his grandfather, fear and madness abruptly become part of his life.
This incident will be the ultimate test for this teenage boy. He will have to make the hardest decision ever; one that will haunt him for the rest of his life. This decision will surely destroy him.
Sometimes in life a price has to be paid, no matter what the price could be.
EXCERPT
I was only ten years old, and anticipated another exhilarating trip to
Grandpa?s house. The day was Saturday, and it was typical for Mom to
drop me off so we could enjoy a day of laughter and new adventures
together. I never missed an opportunity to go over there; I loved our
weekend ritual. Plus it was a well-needed retreat away from Mom and
the girls. Oh, how I did need that? I was the only male in the house,
and at my age that was rough.
Surrounded by four females at a time can be a very trying event for
a young boy of my age. Constantly learning their girly conversations
about clothes, lots of boys, and tons of female issues? yuck, yuck,
yuck! And there is never a day that passes without designer clothes,
bras of various sizes, and every type of underwear imaginable spread
throughout the house. What an obstacle course that can be! One could
say that they are very unique. I wish at times I could transport myself far
away into a new fantasy world of my own; one without girls and their
girly things.
My clock read 8:00 a.m. In an hour or two, Mom would drive me
over to Grandpa?s. I had plenty of time to get dressed, but I was never
a boy to dawdle. I always had things completed or arranged well in
advance of Mom ever being ready. I always believed that being prompt was the
best way. It didn?t make sense to procrastinate, especially if I could get
things finished early. This allowed more time with Grandpa.
Inside my bedroom, I pulled open the bedroom curtain. I gazed out
to see such a beautiful sight. Numerous birds flew across our spacious
back yard, while trees and plants stood in their own splendor of bright
green. Grandpa always taught me to respect nature and to take in its
beauty. He told me many times, ?Nature is a precious gift from God,
one that can never be replaced or forgotten.? And believe me, I couldn?t
agree with him any more. Being a typical boy, I enjoy the outdoors,
especially the warm summer months and the opportunity to be wild and
free in the open air.
